Postcard Dune du Pilat
2,50€
The Dune du Pilat is a sand dune located on the Atlantic coast of France, near the town of Arcachon in Aquitaine. It is one of the largest sand dunes in Europe, measuring more than 100 meters high and stretching over 2 km long. The Dune du Pilat was formed over the centuries by sea winds and ocean currents, which transported sand from nearby beaches to this site. The sand accumulates in this area because the surrounding cliffs limit the circulation of the winds, thus allowing the formation of the dune.
Today, the Dune du Pilat is a popular tourist site, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Visitors can climb the dune to enjoy the panoramic view of the sea and surrounding forests, or relax on the beach at the base of the dune. There are also many outdoor activities available, such as hiking, surfing, kite flying and biking. Because of its ecological importance and popularity with tourists, the Dune du Pilat has been protected as a natural site and has been classified as a nature reserve since 2008. Efforts are made to preserve the biodiversity of the dune and to minimize human impact on this unique and fragile site.
