Let’s go to the Basque Country and take a walk around the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz with a view of the Rhune in this original work by Lotza. In the 16th century, the town lived to the rhythm of its port and its fishermen who went out to sea for months at a time to hunt whales and fish for cod, which could be found on the plates of the restaurants of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and the fishmongers. Today, around forty fishing boats, registered in the Bayonne maritime district, are currently based permanently in the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz / Ciboure. In the foreground, you can see the oldest boat in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the Airosa. Built in 1954, the Airosa is a tuna fishing boat and has belonged to the same family of fishermen for 4 generations.
