Poster Rochefort

This illustration of the Rochefort Royal Rope Factory by illustrator Lotza will introduce you to one of the city’s most fascinating historical treasures. The Royal Rope Factory of Rochefort was once a place where ropes were produced for the warships of the French Navy. Built in 1666 under the orders of Louis XIV, it became the largest rope factory in the world and was considered one of the wonders of 18th century industry. This impressive building has survived the centuries and is today a remarkable industrial heritage, witness of the naval history of France.

As for the city of Rochefort, it was founded in the 17th century by Colbert, minister of Louis XIV, to house the royal navy. The city was thus destined to become one of the main military ports of France, and the royal rope factory played a central role in the production of ropes. Today, the city of Rochefort is a popular tourist destination, with its well-preserved historical architecture, museums, and of course, the Royal Rope Factory that attracts visitors from all over the world.
