African women are diverse and represent many ethnic, linguistic and religious communities. Some African women are rural workers, others are professionals, artists, activists or leaders. African women have unique experiences that are influenced by many factors such as geography, culture, history, religion, education, economics and politics.
Despite progress in women’s rights, African women still face significant challenges, such as discrimination, gender-based violence, poverty, economic inequality and social exclusion. African women are often underrepresented in positions of power and decision-making and have even less access to health services, education and employment.

It is important to recognize and value the contributions of African women in all spheres of society and to support their struggle for gender equality and their full participation in social, economic and political life.
