Postcard La Rhune

Ready for a hike in the Basque Country? This original work by Lotza will make you want to climb the Rhune or take the little train, called “tren txikia” in Basque, one of the last rack railroads, in service since 1924; departure from Sare. It takes you to the top of the Rhune, at 900m. For the more athletic among you, I advise you to start from Olhette (about 2 hours of ascent) or from Ascain (about 1h30 of ascent). During your hike, especially from Ascain, you will see dolmens, but also tumuli (mounds of earth that cover a burial site) and cromlech (an alignment of menhirs), attesting to a prehistoric presence! From the top of the Rhune, you can see the whole Basque coast, from Hendaye to Biarritz, passing by Ciboure, Socoa and Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
