Poster Saumur
21,00€
The poster illustrated by Lotza depicts the magnificent castle of Saumur, a medieval fortress that dominates the city from the hill above. The castle, which began construction in the 10th century, has undergone many transformations and renovations over the centuries, and is today a jewel of French architecture.
Saumur itself is a historic city in the Loire Valley, located on the banks of the Loire River in the Maine-et-Loire department. The city is known for its wines, chateaux and world-renowned horse training stables. It is also famous for its historic center, with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses dating from the 15th century.
The castle of Saumur was built to protect the city and the surrounding region from invasion. It was the seat of the Counts of Anjou in the 11th century, before being transformed into a royal residence in the 15th century. The castle suffered several attacks and destructions over the centuries, before being restored in the 19th century and transformed into a museum. Today, the castle houses the Museum of Decorative Arts, which presents collections of furniture, ceramics and tapestries of the French Renaissance.
